Nova MW6 bridge mode: inventory the features before switching

Explore the guide library · Tenda configuration

Keep the existing gateway in charge while accounting for Nova features that become unavailable in bridge mode.

Keep one intended gateway: Existing router; Nova bridge; Wireless clients
Move policy requirements to the gateway that will enforce them.

Nova bridge mode can fit a home where an existing router must remain the gateway. Before switching, list the Nova functions you use and decide where they will be enforced afterward. The mode change is not merely another way to name the Wi-Fi network.

Read the documented limitations

Tenda’s MW6 and Nova guidance describes bridge operation behind an internet-connected router and lists gateway-related features that become unavailable, including DHCP and several policy controls. Confirm the current behavior for your system and app version before relying on a feature after the change.

Make a before-and-after map

Draw the upstream router, the primary Nova unit and the household devices. Mark which device assigns client addresses. Then write the location of any parental rule, reservation, forwarding rule or guest-access requirement.

If a necessary function will disappear from Nova, verify that the upstream gateway can provide an appropriate replacement. Do this before changing modes, while the existing configuration can still be inspected.

Switch at a suitable time

  1. Save the current configuration information and app access details privately.
  2. Use the supported bridge-mode process in the Tenda app.
  3. Confirm the required wired connection to the upstream router.
  4. Reconnect a test client and inspect its new address and gateway.
  5. Verify internet and local-resource access.

Test policy, not just connectivity

A successful speed test does not verify a household restriction or guest boundary. Test the specific behavior you intended the upstream router to enforce. If the policy cannot be reproduced, reconsider the topology rather than assuming the feature remains active invisibly.

Keep recovery documented

Record how the Nova system is now managed and where its client addressing originates. Keep the previous mode and connection settings available until the household passes its normal tasks.

This guide covers the decision and validation around bridge mode. It does not claim that switching modes improves speed in every installation or that all Nova products expose identical features.

Which RX2 Pro operating mode should I plan before setup?

Choose the RX2 Pro's operating mode from the role it needs to perform. Is it the household gateway, an Ethernet-connected wireless access point, or a device repeating an existing wireless connection? Starting with that question avoids entering credentials into the wrong setup path. Tenda's RX2 Pro specification lists wireless-router mode, AP mode and universal repeater mode labeled Client+AP. That establishes available categories, but it does not mean every feature behaves identically in each one. Check the current guide for your hardware and firmware before switching.

How should I allocate the TE6L Pro’s single 2.5G port?

The TE6L Pro's faster Ethernet interface deserves a deliberate assignment. If it is used for the internet feed, it is not also available as a separate faster local socket. Start by drawing the task whose performance you intend to improve. Tenda lists one 2.5 Gbps WAN/LAN interface and three gigabit WAN/LAN interfaces for this model. Verify your exact regional hardware and the supported port-role behavior in its current interface.

How do I identify the correct device for an RX2 Pro reservation?

The useful part of an address reservation is not choosing a memorable number; it is assigning the intended device a predictable address without conflicts. On an RX2 Pro, begin by matching the client to the router's list accurately. Tenda lists DHCP reservation among RX2 Pro's router functions. Check that your unit is operating in a mode where it supplies DHCP and that the current interface exposes the feature. If another gateway serves addresses, configure the reservation there instead.
